What happened
City Union Bank said on Monday, 2 November 2026, that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved Sankaran G as Whole-time Director, designated Executive Director, for three years. The term runs from the date he assumes charge, according to BusinessLine.
Sankaran G is currently the bank’s Executive President. The private sector lender said it would take the necessary steps to bring him onto its Board in due course.
The bank added that it would send a separate communication to the stock exchange once the Board approves the appointment.

What it means for you
For depositors and customers, the announcement is a leadership appointment and does not change deposit rates, loan terms or services. The appointment is still subject to the bank’s Board approval, so the formal induction is yet to happen.

Background
In India, appointments of whole-time directors at private banks need RBI approval before they take effect. A whole-time director is a board member who works full time in the bank’s management, as opposed to a non-executive director who oversees the bank without running day-to-day operations.
The bank did not give a date on which Sankaran G would assume charge. Further details are expected in the filing to the stock exchange after the Board acts.
