What happened
The Danish brewer Carlsberg A/S is getting ready to make public the paperwork for a stock market listing of its Indian arm, according to a Bloomberg report carried by BusinessLine and CNBC-TV18. The offering could be worth up to $700 million, and the public filing could come as early as this week.
The reports say Carlsberg India may start meeting investors in roadshows (presentations to prospective buyers ahead of an issue) next week. A launch as early as December is possible. The report relies on people familiar with the matter, and a Carlsberg representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Nothing has been officially announced yet.
The offering is expected to be entirely a secondary share sale. That means the Danish parent would sell shares it already holds, so the money goes to the seller and not to the Indian company. The report adds that Carlsberg confidentially submitted draft IPO documents in July.
Kotak Mahindra Capital, along with the Indian units of JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup, is reported to be working on the deal. The reports add that the size, structure and timing could change.

What it means for you
If you invest in IPOs, nothing can be applied for yet. Price band, issue dates and size will come only with the public documents. You can read how the process works in our guide to how an IPO works, or see the glossary entry on an initial public offering.
Carlsberg India is described as the country’s second-largest brewer, with a market share of about 22%. It entered India in 2007 and operates seven breweries, according to its website.
