Key points

  • EAAA India Alternatives opens its ₹1,200 crore IPO on 26 October and it closes on 28 October.
  • Anchor investor bidding is on 23 October, according to the Red Herring Prospectus.
  • Every share on offer is being sold by Edelweiss Group, so the company gets no proceeds.
  • The size was cut from the ₹1,500 crore proposed in the draft filed with SEBI in January.

What happened

EAAA India Alternatives, part of the Edelweiss Financial Services group, will begin subscription on 26 October for a ₹1,200 crore share sale to the public, known as an initial public offering (IPO), according to PTI reports carried by Economic Times and BusinessLine.

The issue closes on 28 October. Anchor investor bidding, where large institutions bid before the public issue opens, is set for 23 October, according to the company’s Red Herring Prospectus (RHP), the final offer document.

No new shares are being issued. Edelweiss Group is selling existing shares through an Offer for Sale (OFS), so the company itself receives no money and the full amount goes to the seller.

The issue is now smaller than planned. The Draft Red Herring Prospectus filed with SEBI in January had proposed ₹1,500 crore, which has since been trimmed to ₹1,200 crore.

EAAA India Alternatives opens its ₹1,200 crore IPO on 26 October and it closes on 28 October.

What it means for you

If you plan to apply, the key dates are 26 to 28 October. Because there is no fresh issue, the IPO will not add capital to the company’s own balance sheet. It is a way for the Edelweiss Group to sell part of its holding. For a primer on offer types and listing, see how an IPO works.

Background

Set up in 2008, EAAA India Alternatives runs an alternative investment platform, meaning it invests in assets beyond ordinary listed shares and bonds. It has more than 15 years of experience managing long-term money and follows a multi-strategy approach centred on income and yield solutions for clients.

Its portfolio covers real assets such as energy and transportation infrastructure and commercial real estate, as well as private credit, which provides financing across the risk spectrum. It has offices in Mumbai, New Delhi, GIFT City and Singapore.

In March, Edelweiss Financial Services completed the sale of 4.4% of the common equity in the arm for ₹375 crore.

Separately, SEC Environmental Technologies Ltd plans to launch its IPO on 27 October, closing on 29 October, with anchor bidding on 26 October. It combines a fresh issue of up to ₹150 crore and an OFS of up to 1,56,82,750 equity shares.

What it means for you

The EAAA India Alternatives IPO is open for subscription from 26 to 28 October. Since it is wholly an offer for sale, the money raised goes to Edelweiss Group and not to the company. Readers should read the RHP before deciding whether to apply.
