What it means for you
If you plan to buy jewellery, coins or bars, the price you pay depends on your jeweller’s rate, making charges and taxes. Karat shows purity: 24K is the purest, while 22K and 18K are mixed with other metals, so they cost less per gram. Our Gold Jewellery Price Calculator can help you estimate a bill.
Global cues matter too. Mint, citing Bloomberg, said spot gold edged down 0.2% to $4,007.66 an ounce in Singapore on 27 October, while silver slipped 0.1% to $53.90. Traders expected the US Federal Reserve to keep interest rates unchanged at its meeting that week. Lower oil prices and a new round of US-Iran talks had eased some pressure, the report said.
Suki Cooper of Standard Chartered said gold “will need to establish a floor” and that support could fade quickly if it fails to hold $3,886 an ounce. Higher oil prices keep inflation risks in focus, she noted.
