What it means for you
If you are buying jewellery, the final bill depends on the day’s rate, the making charges and tax, so the city rate is only a starting point. You can estimate a bill with our Gold Jewellery Price Calculator.
24K is the purest form of gold. 22K is commonly used for jewellery because it is more durable. Silver 999 is 99.9% pure silver, often used for bars and coins.
Background
The domestic uptick follows a weak spell abroad. According to a CNBC report cited by Mint, spot gold fell 0.6% to $3,998.49 an ounce on Friday, dropping below $4,000 for the first time since mid-July. It lost about 4% over the week, its worst week since June.
The report linked the slide to costlier energy, which stoked inflation worries. Traders also leaned towards the view that US borrowing costs will stay high, with the Federal Reserve due to meet. US December gold futures settled 1.3% lower at $4,007.90 per ounce.
