What happened

Qatar’s General Tax Authority has extended the deadline for registering for the Global and Domestic Minimum Tax to 31 January 2027. The announcement was published on 4 November 2026.

Registration is done on the Dhareeba platform, the Authority’s online portal. The extension covers multinational enterprise groups and joint venture groups.

The Authority says the extra time is meant to let these groups prepare and complete registration. It urges every group covered by the minimum tax provisions to finish registering by 31 January 2027 and to use the extended period to prepare the required data and information.

What it means for you

This is a compliance matter for large corporate groups, not for individual taxpayers. If you work for, advise or run a business that belongs to a multinational or joint venture group with operations in Qatar, the finance or tax team will be the one handling it.

Groups have more time, but the registration still has to be completed through Dhareeba. The Authority has not said anything in this announcement about penalties or about a further extension.

For Indians living in Qatar, the announcement does not change personal tax obligations. It matters mainly if your employer is part of an affected group.

Background

The registration service went live on 2 August 2026. Through it, groups subject to the Global and Domestic Minimum Tax provisions submit the required data and information. They also appoint the Designated Local Entity, the entity in Qatar responsible for registration, notification and tax return filing under the applicable provisions.

The Authority says the extension reflects its commitment to supporting taxpayers and to effective implementation of the minimum tax framework. Separately, Qatari officials recently attended a global tax meeting in Paris; see our report on Qatar’s delegation at the 18th BEPS meeting.

What it means for you

The extension affects multinational and joint venture groups, not individual taxpayers. Affected groups now have until 31 January 2027 to register on Dhareeba and name a Designated Local Entity. Employees of such groups need not act personally.
