What happened
The UAE Ministry of Finance announced four developments between 18 and 22 October 2026: a deal to host global finance meetings, the end of its Bangkok trip, a change to e-invoicing rules and a top-10 spot in an international index.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group signed an agreement with the UAE to hold their annual meetings in Abu Dhabi in October 2029, according to Times Kuwait. The signing took place in Bangkok on Sunday, 18 October, at the end of the 2026 annual meetings, and World Bank Group President Ajay Banga attended. The ministry also said the UAE concluded its participation in the Bangkok meetings. Read our coverage of the 2029 hosting deal.
On 19 October the ministry announced amendments to its electronic invoicing regulations, which it said are meant to ease the burden on businesses. See our e-invoicing report.
On 22 October it said the UAE broke into the global top 10 in IMD’s 2026 Government Support Index. Read more on the IMD ranking.

What it means for you
If you run or work for a business in the UAE, the e-invoicing amendment is the item most likely to matter day to day. Check the ministry’s published regulations for the exact changes before adjusting your invoicing systems.
The 2029 meetings and the index ranking are not rule changes. They do not alter any tax, rate or requirement for residents or NRIs.
